    1. Boys meets girl. They fall in love and live happily ever after. So simple, right? Not if Francine Rivers has anything to say about it!For years, Rivers has faithfully produced stories that tug at our heartstringss like “A Voice in the Wind” and “When the Shofar Blew”. Most recently, “A Bridge to Haven”. Now, in her book that is set to release in January 2018, she is back and yes, still producing love stories that are both agonizing and glorious.“The Masterpiece” follows two main [...]

    2. Read this review and many more at: 5171 Miles Book Blog.Thank you to Tyndale Publishing for their kindness in allowing me to read and review an advanced copy of The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers.Francine Rivers is a legend in Women's Christian Fiction. Her book Redeeming Love is among my favorite reads of all-time. She has an exquisite way of writing unconditional love and making readers feel her words. I knew many book lovers were anticipating this book and I was eager to get my hands on it [...]

    3. I've only read Redeeming Love and the Marta's Legacy books by Ms. Rivers. Her work is amazing with those books. They have all the feels within them and just make you want to come back for more. So, when I saw she was releasing The Masterpiece, I didn't pass on it. I was anxious to be taken to a writing style that only Ms. Rivers knows how to do. I was absolutely pleased with all that I felt with this book! This book has amazing characters. Roman and Grace are created with such depth and complexi [...]

    4. 4.5 stars--Top PickThe long wait between Francine Rivers' novels is well worth it when the final page of this book is turned. Richly detailed characters with traumatic pasts are woven together with Biblical truths and redemptive themes. On the surface, this seems like a very basic romance, but when the layers are peeled back, each of the characters' choices in the past and present are thoughtfully explored. As Roman and Grace learn about each other, the reader, too, learns about them as glimpses [...]

    5. I was hesitant to read The Masterpiece after being disappointed in A Bridge to Haven. I have very much enjoyed Francine River’s other novels so decided to try her latest release. The story of two adults from difficult childhoods was certainly compelling. I felt my heart breaking for both Roman and Grace. It’s a beautiful story of character and spiritual development. I didn’t warm up to Aunt Elizabeth despite knowing why she behaved the way she did. I am thankful for people such as Chet, Bri [...]

    6. I am still in a book fog after reading The Masterpiece. It was such a moving love story and Rivers has really done her research on art part of the book. She tells about that at the end of the book. The characters were strong and the storyline remarkable. I loved the way it all turns out, I was on the fence for a while.I challenge you to put this down once you start reading it. I think it will be one you read without realizing you have read the book in one evening. Rivers has done it again another [...]

    7. 500 Pages of a MasterpieceWow! I am speechless. I have no words to describe how I feel. I just finished this amazing book and can say this is one of the best books I have ever read. I never once wanted to put this book down. I was hooked from page one. This story tells of two people who are starved for love. One a former street hardened gang tagger and one a beautiful, sweet, single mom. I loved the story line and I loved the ending. This is another beautifully God inspired work by Mrs. Rivers.

    8. 2.5 While I really did want to love Francine River’s latest, like I have so many of her other books, this one fell flat for me. I was intrigued by the idea and the characters, but there were a few other things that made it hard for me to love this one.I thought there were some unnecessary stereotypes with some of the characters and I also wanted her friends to be a bit more than they were. Some were one dimensional and with others, their actions were a bit confusing. Not that characters need t [...]

    9. I must confess, I was a little bit apprehensive about reading this book once I found out the author was a born again Christian. After the first 30 pages I was sucked in. The main characters are so well developed and their stories compelling. I couldn’t put the book down. The religious stuff gets heavier in the last 100 pages but for a non Christian it was interesting to see the strength of “believers”

    10. 5 wonderful stars for this one! It’s been 4 yrs since I’ve read a Francine Rivers novel and I have really missed her writing. This was sooooo good. I felt like she was telling my story. My childhood was filled with drugs, alcohol, physical and mental abuse. My testimony was similar in so many ways. I was a runaway teenager living in LA with a stripper when I finally said yes to Christ. If you love the Lord and live in grace, then you’ll love this story as much as I do. The romance and char [...]

    11. I translated this book into Afrikaans and what a privilege it has been. Another fantastic book by one of my favorite authors. Loved the honesty of the characters' struggles and seeing that dependence on God alone will always lead to the blessings He has for us.

    12. Grace Moore is a young woman with a young baby, Samuel and recently divorced. She was going to have Samuel adopted because she couldn't provide for him. However, when she held Samuel in her arms she couldn't let him go. I was shocked to see the Garcia family that was going to adopt Samual be so understanding and let her stay with them for a year while she weaned him. Desperate to provide for her son she took a job as an assistant for Mr. Velasco. I really liked Grace. She loved her son deeply an [...]

    13. I don't read a lot of Christian Fiction. It tends to be sappy or preachy. A Francine Rivers novel is anything but. It manages to distill a Christian message into one that can be applied to anyone's life. Redeeming Love remains one of the best books I have ever read, Christian or not. I also loved her Mark of the Lion series. I tend to enjoy her historical novels more than some of the other books she's written but when I saw this new book coming out I really wanted to read it.Roman is a broken pe [...]

    14. As Adele would say, reading a new book by Francine Rivers feels like home. “It’s like a dream come true.”“The Masterpiece” has her footprint in every page. The well-developed concept of the book, the complexity of each character, and the message of redemption going through the story are very distinctive in her writing, and we can see all of that in this book as well. Grace seems to be perfect in the midst of all her imperfection, as usually happens with the main female characters this [...]

    15. Francine Rivers has once again created a story with characters so vibrant, so etched within the words that you don’t want the book to end even after 484 pages. I don’t know the last time I devoured a book so eagerly. This was not an easy story. It was emotionally draining at times and one that will stay with me for a long while. The Masterpiece is like a window into the souls of two individuals. One who desperately knows she needs God and one who lives like there is no God. It's a human love [...]

    16. First I need to share I am not much of fiction reader myself, unless it is read alouds with my children. I personally prefer nonfiction reads. Now I have known of Francine Rivers for a couple years, many of my close friends enjoy and rave about her books. I have read her devotional Earth Psalms, and enjoyed it! So when I saw her new book coming out from Tyndale, I figured now is the time to read this and also share my review with you of it. Plus, the cover of the book is absolutely beautiful! No [...]

    17. The Masterpiece, by Francine Rivers, is a very good story. With 484 pages, it is not a quick read. This is a contemporary Christian fiction that shows real life struggles Christians deal with. It also shows that yet we are all sinners, God forgives us our sins. The story deals with the issue of an unwed pregnancy and the decisions the mother has to make for the sake of her child and herself.Roman is a successful artist in need of a personal assistant. His mother was a prostitute and would leave [...]

    18. Not my favorite Francine Rivers book. And maybe it's not entirely the books fault. I would categorize this book as a romance, and I'm not usually into romances. Not enough of an interesting plot for me. This is the story of Roman Velasco, a temperamental bad-boy artist with a tragic history, who was able to rise up from his life of foster homes and graffiti art on the streets to become a successful and famous, though rather quirky, muralist. Enter Grace Moore, his new personal assistant. A Chris [...]

    19. In one word, beautiful! This book was a beautiful story of two damaged people from difficult backgrounds. Francine Rivers’ writing is superb. Although this story is almost 500 pages, it never dragged or felt like it was too long. The characters were complex and developed beautifully through the story. I was not a fan of Grace at first, but after learning more about her life, I understood why she had her guard up and acted the way she did. The reader gets a look at Roman’s thoughts and sees hi [...]

    20. Francine gets back to her romance roots in this story. While it may seem like a simple concept, boy meets girl and they fall in love, it's anything but. You will be taken on a wonderful journey of two people overcoming mistakes in the past, finding redemption, and eventually finding each other. Nobody writes a novel like Francine Rivers. I thoroughly enjoyed The Masterpiece and you will too!

    21. Deb’s Dozen: Contemporary romance brings two people together despite their brokenness and childhood traumas.Francine Rivers has written a clever contemporary romance, The Masterpiece. She moves between the pasts and presents of her two main characters in almost every chapter. The device, however, allows us to learn in much more detail the backgrounds of the characters than a normal flashback would. Once I’d read a few chapters, I was hooked and read the book straight through.Grace Moore, a d [...]

    22. Philippians 4:8 English Standard Version (ESV)8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. This Scripture reference probably seems an odd one to use in a book review, but to me, it isn’t. The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers is something true and honorable, lovely and commendable, excellent and worthy of pra [...]

    23. Just finished this amazing book, this is definitely a favorite! Francine Rivers is my favorite author because being a Christian isn't all about being perfect, it's about realizing how imperfect you are and seeing how you're missing something to fill you without God. Although it's so much deeper than that simple message I think most of her books ring true to that. They are some of the most raw books I've ever read not sugar-coated or made to look like the perfect Christian scenario that most peop [...]

    24. No one is beyond God’s reach, but sometimes we have to hit the bottom before we’re willing to accept His hand.Francine Rivers is known for writing stirring stories of God’s redemptive love, and The Masterpiece is another wonderful work in her collection.Broken characters can be a challenge to read, and yet Roman and Grace have stories with which so many could relate. Their brokenness sets the stage for work only Jesus could complete.I loved that The Masterpiece was not entirely predictable [...]

    25. I haven't read a book by Francine Rivers in quite a while, but every book I have read by her, I have enjoyed. She captures time, place, and detail in such a captivating manner. Her characters have depth and a variety. In this book she alternates between the present and past circumstances of her characters building the story's momentum. The two main characters, Grace and Roman, are not without past hurts and struggles and attempting to rise above them in their current lives. I enjoyed learning abo [...]

    26. There is so much in this novel, I don’t know where to begin to describe this wonderful adventure. In the authors’ note to readers Francine says, “…I wanted to explore two individuals and how traumatic childhood experiences impact their adult thinking and behavior. Can they have a normal life?”…With Christ, all things are possible, but what if faith is lacking?”This is a powerful topic with deep rich characterization the reader is allowed to walk in these characters shoes as they st [...]

    27. Grace Moore and Roman Velasco have been impacted by childhood traumas few people know about. Their paths cross when Grace accepts a job as Roman’s assistant. Both are searching for peace the kind that can only be found in Christ and through his transforming love.Rivers’ latest is a tale of redemption filled with Biblical truths. It’s richly detailed and contains complex characters and beautiful prose. The story alternates between the present and past, showing the scars Roman and Grace keep [...]

    28. Wow!! I like Francine’s writings, always have. This is no less! I don’t like most of her modern day novels as they don’t appeal as much to me, but this held something little that grew into a huge liking. It’s quite similar in style to the Atonement child and A bridge to haven although very different stories. The lives of Grace and Roman get intertwined and eventually become a piece to a big puzzle of God’s grace, love and forgiveness; stretched out to others.Like Francine’s stories of [...]

    29. Roman Velasco is a rich, self centered artist who's artistry is highly acclaimed and sought after, by night he is know as "bird/BRD" and works in secret as he tags buildings with his signature marked graffiti. He has experienced loss and betrayal throughout his entire life and has shut off his heart from everyone. In walks GraceGrace has her own set of problems. She lost her parents tragically at a young age, she made some poor choices and gets married to someone she thought she knew while they [...]

    30. I love Francine Rivers. She’s one of the best Christian fiction authors out there. Her books often talk about difficult topics and do not sugar-coat the pain that poor choices and difficult histories can have on one’s present life. For that, I appreciate her characters’ flaws and strengths. This book did discuss sex, swearing and abortion. However, I found the discussion and inclusion of these topics to be much more realistic than just pretending Christians never encounter or struggle with [...]
