    1. When Jessica Chai dies in a car accident, her overachieving mother decides that the only way to make sure her daughter's death doesn't go to waste is to donate her organs to those who desperately need them to survive. Jessica's body is dismembered, pieces of her are taken and transported miles away. Not ready to move on, Jessica's spirit lingers, watching those who received her organs, observing their lives. She becomes a silent witness to their recoveries and she begins to realize that her seem [...]

    2. Pieces of Me spoke to me on multiple levels. The premise was awesome, and the minute I saw the synopsis (especially the longer one on the inside of the book) I added to my list and requested from the library. I have devoured books about illnesses, organ transplants and the like. Lurlene McDaniel is my hero in writing books that make me feel for the characters and something about disease just fascinates me, especially in teens where they are both so deeply effected by the impact on their lives an [...]

    6. Okay, I have to start off by saying that the summary for this book is kind of misleading. Well, at least to me it was. The whole part about Jessica being "angry" about her organs being donated to a bunch of people when she died made me think that this book would be about her complaining the whole time and haunting the people who got her organs. Thank goodness I was wrong, because this one is focused on the lives of those living with her organs and how they're trying to find how amazing the life [...]

    7. Told from the perspective of a high school girl who dies and follows the interconnected lives of the people who ended up with her organ donations: Vivian, a girl and painter with cystic fibrosis; Sam, a high schooler with kidney disease who has started a blog on everyday miracles; Leif, a football athlete who has trouble living up to parental expectations; and Misty, a girl with liver disease whose family cannot afford treatment. The perspective and interconnectedness was interesting. I had trou [...]

    8. I really liked this book about halfway through! But the ending left me wanting so much more. This book is about life and death, religion, friendship, love , medicine, poverty. So much stuffed in one young adult novel. But to make this all work I needed at least one character that I really knew. The author gave me pieces of insight into all 5 main characters, but I never truly understood any of them. This was especially frustrating with the main character. This is a girl that seems more connected [...]

    11. 'Pieces of Me' is a heartwarming and unique look at how even terrible situations can bring hope and meaning to people's lives. Jessica Chai is incredibly shy and a bit weird - something she's come to accept in high school. One fateful day, Jessica is killed in a car accident and her parents decide that Jessica would want her organs donated to those who are in need of them. What nobody knows is that Jessica is furious that she died and that parts of her are being given away. The recipients of Jes [...]

    12. “Donation? Money to the hospital? To make me well? Didn’t the doctor call Nurse Brady an organ-donor coordinator? What did he do? I needed organs? Procurement? He is a Professional Cure Doctor? TO cure me? Or no… Think, Jessica. Think! I screamed, leaping at my body, trying to force myself back inside. To open my eyes. To talk. To live. Donation? I wasn’t meant to be served up. I AM HERE. YOU CAN’T JUST TAKE MY PIECES!You can’t make me.”Pieces of Me by Amber Kizer is the story of J [...]

    13. Pieces of Me was such a beautiful story! And what an emotional journey. This book reminded me of the emotional rawness of If I Stay, and it was sort of a behind-the-scenes look at the "unwinds" in Neal Shusterman's Unwind. I make these comparisons to praise Amber Kizer. Any book that lends itself to comparison to Unwind or If I Stay is a great book, in my opinion.I fell in love with Pieces of Me from the very first page. Jessica is bullied by a group of popular girls (she calls them The Skirts, [...]

    14. I was super excited when I read the summary for this book. I'm really passionate about organ donation, to the point where I was the president of an organ donation awareness club in high school (SODA - we had a pretty solid acronym). However, I hated the first part of the book. So much so that I would have put it down if I didn't have to review it. Jess comes off annoying and self-centered, while only giving us a brief sense of her life. The introduction of several characters feels forced any qui [...]

    15. This book is about a teenager, Jessica, who has a "life-changing" event. She becomes connected to four teens who have nothing in common, except her. That is before they all meet and know that they are connected on much different levels. You are reading this book from an amazing point of view. I think that I was just expecting a bigger climax or maybe I had a different ending in mind. At times it could be a little confusing, because there are many names to remember. The book is very good and a bo [...]

    16. If you enjoy novels with multiple points of view where everything seems to come together, you will enjoy this novel by Amber Kizer.

    17. This book hit too close to home dealing with death and organ donation, but I am completely in awe of how this made me feel. I am looking at transplants from another side. Well written with great character development.

    18. An amazing deep read, one that will definitely get you thinking. I found it interesting that the author gave the main character the last name of Chai which in Hebrew means "alive," or "living."

    19. There was just something Missing from the story. I can't quite put my finger on what it was, but it took away from the reading of the story overall. I liked the story, but I did not love it.

    22. This was surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting much, but it satisfied me in a way that a vast majority of the books I've read recently haven't even come close to. I do have one complaint, that is, that every single parent is an idiot. I can't help but think that stories like this are a contributing factor in teens avoiding talking to their parents about their problems and therefore getting themselves into trouble they might not have otherwise. If not for that I would likely have given the book 5 [...]

    23. I quit reading it. It was so bad I just couldn't muster whatever it took to finish it. 🙊😔

    24. A Truly Unique Point of ViewEver wonder about orgasm donations and the spirit of those who have their body parts after deceased? This is such a great reasd!

    26. Pieces of Me was super unique and I loved that about it.The premise is such that after a series of events that lead to the main character Jessica's death, her organs are harvested and donated to 4 teens who happen to live in her community or are connected to her community in some way (implausible, I know, but stretch your imagination here). Jessica becomes a ghost, I guess you could say, and is able to experience life through each of the teens she gave parts to. This story is emotional. It deals [...]

    27. A 2016-2017 Missouri Truman Readers Award nominee (grades 6-8).2.5 stars. This book about organ donation was better than I thought it would be, but since my expectations were pretty low, that isn't saying much. In the novel, high school student Jessica Chai is killed in a car accident, but her consciousness stays linked to her organs which go to several other teens, including a teen with cystic fibrosis and a high school football star. Jessica watches over them, but has no ability to communicate [...]
